UCU 2007 Elections

Sent my ballot today. I can’t say UCU made it easy to choose. If I were running it, I’d dispense with manifestos which are – as one candidate pointed out in his – anodyne. I’d have members submit questions in advance or choose from a bank of pre-defined questions, and candidates could respond to those on the Web. You should be able to organise the responses by question and by candidate. That way we could compare like with like as well as gaining an overview of the individuals. Worryingly, I found myself having to correct an instant aversion to candidates who mentioned “Left” or “UCU Left”. Worrying because if I’m anything myself, it’s Left.
