Unison’s International Affairs Committee vetoed a donation to Labourstart after a member (thought also to be a member of the Socialist Workers Party) vetted its editor Eric Lee on one issue only – the matter of his support for Israel. As Eric Lee, who is Jewish, pointed out to his interrogator, his position is pretty similar to the Labour Government’s. But the offer of the donation was withdrawn. Predictably, the polite boycott of institutions is beginning to creep towards something for personal.
David Cameron reclaimed the Z-word:
“If by Zionist you mean that the Jews have the right to a homeland in Israel and the right to a country, then I am a Zionist.”
Missing the point, one of the comments read “Big deal – I am also a “Zionist” by that definition.”
Well, yeah. Aren’t we all?
