Have a careful read of Ami Isseroff’s Swiftian piece Punishment for Self Hating Anti-Israel Jewish Traitors on ZioNation (first seen on Bob From Brockley)
It is a smart piece but it will only work for the initiated and it’s too good to keep just for them, so explanation if necessary:
Isseroff’s piece is a sortie to reassert mainstream, progressive Zionism and bat away the Israeli far right (such as Yisrael Beiteinu) and international hard left (such as the SWP, Electronic Intifada) in their shared aim: a merging of Israel and Palestine by force.
The punchline happens as Isseroff sticks his head out from behind his hardline Zionist mask to urge right-minded Zionists to deal harshly with a far right rabbi and a Likudnik for anti-Zionist attacks on the security forces and Israel’s security respectively. If Isseroff also hoped to trip up one or two lumbering adherents of the far right and far left into believing their prejudices about, respectively, the political left and Zionism confirmed this indeed happened – see the comments.
Zionism – the belief that a state for Jews is a justifiable and good idea – has always been diverse. The peacemaker Rabin was killed by an extremist from the Israeli right. Israel will have a general election because the centre right Kadima coaltion refused Shas’s condition that Jerusalem should form no part of negotiations with Palestinians.
