And amid Gordon Brown’s campaign to crush dissenters in his government with smear campaigns emanating from Number 10, Jane Kennedy’s principles stood out. She cut her political teeth fighting the Militant in Liverpool in the ’80s and in 2009 was repelled by the resurrection of the same style of character assassination in her own Labour government.
“It’s a style, a type of politics that I have fought against all my working life since battling against the Militant Tendency here in Liverpool. It’s not a kind of politics that I want to be associated with.”
